maxigrip stud fitting wear and tear FAQ

Fitting

Always check the tread depth is sufficient before fitting.

Basic rule

Never fit a stud that is longer than the tread depth, i.e. an 18 mm stud requires a 17 mm tread depth. 3 mm of the stud should be raised above the tire surface, which gives a margin of 2 mm down to the cord. The thickness of the cord varies between 4 and 20 mm depending on the tire type.

To achieve optimal results, count the number of contact patches on the tire and make a strategy for fitting the studs.

If unsure, choose a shorter stud model (we have several dimensions).

Maxigrip X-Model

Use an ordinary cross point screwdriver.

Only a few millimetres of the stud should be visible above the tire surface once fitted. In this way, the stud head will gain a firm grip on the surface. Dismount with pliers.

Maxigrip HM-Model (professional model)

This stud is easily fitted and dismounted with a special casing that is supplied with the product. Initially, the casing is set to the basic setting to provide a 3 mm projection of the stud above the tire surface. The projection may vary depending on the resistance of the rubber; in some cases the casing must be reset. Learning how to fit the studs is easy.

In order to dismount the studs, the special casing is adjusted backwards.

The correct distance between the rubber and hard metal edge is 3 mm.

Bear in mind that Maxigrip HM ice studs last for several seasons for most users
